When you are unsure of the performance and/or magnet size you need, a good test method is to start with thinner magnets and increase their height. Ferrite disc magnets may need to be glued in place. They dislike being press fitted because doing so runs the risk of the magnets being broken, chipped, or shattered. The ceramic ferrite disc magnets have a stronger pull when drawing in another magnet than when drawing in a ferromagnetic object (like a piece of mild steel).
